Blogging Momma: Summer is Lemonaid and Lots to Do!

Blogging Momma: Summer is Lemonaid and Lots to Do!

Summer is Lemonaid and Lots to Do!

It has been too long since my last post!! Moms just never have enough time... Or hands either! LOL. On a recent visit to relatives, my 10 yr old nephew had a lemonaid Stand set up on the road to make money. I have to admit, it has been way too hot here in Mississippi to be outside doing much of anything, much less in the direct sun and heat working. My two kids thought it was cool and decided to put their own entrepreneurial skills to work. However, Living in the country does not yield itself to profitable roadside money maker for my sweet babies. My kids decided to put a spin on their lemonaid enterprise. In the future, if you ever drop by for a visit, The lemonaid at my house is a dollar- even for me. Although I may have bought it at the store myself, I probably mixed it up and I probably prepared the glasses, I am charged a dollar. Actually, any drink at my house is $1.00. Even the water out of the tap- if they hear me make a drink, I am expected to Annie up. I don't know if I am raising future entrepreneurs but I may have a couple of politicians on my hands- they are the only ones I can think of that can get you to pay for something you've already bought...

Lent!?! I just cleaned my dryer!

My sister-in-law and the funniest friend I have ever had, Rachel, are both catholic. I have to admit, Lent has always seemed pretty neat to me, but I only truly found out the reasoning behind it over the last 10 years. Basically, you make a sacrifice, as Jesus made a sacrifice for us, and remember the 40 days of prayer and fasting that he did. Thus Lent lasts 40 days. There is actually other stuff involved, but this is all I have ever observed, and no matter how small my 'sacrifice' has been, it is NEVER easy. Obviously this year my sacrifice was very lofty! I decided to give up (drum roll please), desserts & sweets and white bread and white rice. I am a moron. Truly, what was I thinking? Every day has been sheer torture and we are not even half way through this! Everything has white bread and every cell in my body craves chocolate. My little girl is a choc-o-holic (she gets this from me) and as she ate a Swiss roll sitting on my lap last night, offered me half and just laughed. She is three...but I almost took her down. I am telling you, that some chocolate bunny doesn't stand a chance on Easter morning, and God willing, I might just put it between two prices of bread! Haha

So it has been a while since my last post. It has been a very busy past couple of weeks. The older I get, the more I am finding that life is truly like a roller coaster ride... Can I Pencil You In?

I have come to realize that there are advantages and disadvantages to both living in the country or the city. I love Raising my kids in the country and all the fun antics that come along with it :-). But I have to admit, there are some things I miss about the city. I miss the traffic (seriously!), and all the people. My personality thrives on social situations- and animals don't usually respond as well as people when you talk their ears off, haha! I also miss how close family was in the city, and obviously we stay away for too long between visits! This weekend at my sons birthday party, my 5 yr old niece pulled me down close and told me that she would like to schedule a play date with my daughter! LOL! I half expected her to pull out her blackberry and work out the details. At some point your kids (or any kids in your family) cross the line of being children to being tiny people with all kinds of
Grown up thoughts and actions. In some cases, especially the girls in my family, that moment is super speed and if you don't watch it you will get whip lash!!!

Pocket Change

Tomorrow we are having my son's 6th birthday party, classic Mario Brothers , his favorite. I found out this week that 6 is now a mile marker birthday, to be in the ranks of 16 & 21. TLC has a new reality show (like we need another) called 'Outrageous Kids Parties," and their premier this week was of a mom who spent $32,000 on her daughter's 6 yr birthday. And amazingly she spent that much without her husbands knowledge, their budget for the shindig was a modest $15,000, but she said her daughter wanted the best. Granted, it was a fairy tale birthday theme complete with a cinderella replica horse drawn carriage, costumes for each of the 2000 guests and a 9 tier cake. Evidently the fairy princess theme is very in right now- Mariah Carey spent $20,000 a peice on carriage baby beds for her soon to be born twins. She has spent a mere $1,000,000 to date on the two bundles of joy due this spring. Truly part of me is amazed and bedazzled by the thought of that much money being spent on someone's child ( or maybe just the thought of that much money in general). But in the end it has just made me very sad....I know you know where I am going with this :-). It probably could have saved a third world country, and if it had been me, I would have used it for... Hmmm, paying bills, and other 'outrageous' things like that! Lol

Live It Up

I have been a bit busy this week working at a consignment sale. I work only 2, even though there are quite a few out there and I do a Overstock new clothes show. It is always fun to visit with my friends at the sales that I haven't seen since the last sale! It is also fun to clean out closets and make a little money so I can fill them up again :-). Tonight is a little bittersweet...my son will be 6 tomorrow and I just can't believe I am old enough to have a 6 yr old!! That's right, I have made it about me, but reality is really starting to set in that I am not as young as I somehow elude myself into thinking! Somehow and somewhere along the line I turned around to find that I am a somewhat responsible adult mom of two and am now referred to as a "ma'am!". What the... So I, because this is a HUGE deal to me, asked my son what he was going to do for his last day as a five yr old? His words were inspiring, "I am just going to live it up and then turn 6!". Well said. And so tonight we are living it up! LOL

Go Ahead, Blame the Cat!

I imagine it happens in every parents life- the memorable first ( cue dramatic music) curse word. For me, both of my children decided to make their's on the same night this past week. I don't think it matters who you are, nothing quite prepares you for it nor do you get fore warning. My oldest, 5, was walkin through while I had the Grammy's on and stopped to watch for a bit. I was not paying that much attention as I was looking at Facebook and the singer was not one that I really got into. With the most innocent and inquisitive little voice my son asked me, "mom, what is a son of a b****?". Thinking I could not have possibly heard him correctly, I snapped back with, "what did you say?". He turned to me and very innocently once again repeated it and followed with " the man on tv just said it.". The moment seemed to last forever and I thought my eyeballs were actually going to pop out of my head. Then, I did what I always do when I don't know what to do- I laughed. I know. This is and was not funny and absolutely NOT the right way to handle the situation, but it was like a knee jerk reaction! I absolutely did not know what to do and the harder I tried not to laugh, well, the harder I did laugh. My son ran down the hall, as he was not asking to be funny and this upset him and my husband glared at me. I did calm myself and talked with my son in which I explained to him not to say bad words and why. I don't know why I laughed. I don't curse myself and I don't let them watch a bunch of stuff with words in it. I felt guilty the rest of the night. I laid down with my 3'yr old to get her to sleep. She is a busy body. And I mean that in the literal term. She is always busy doing something or chatting up a storm. In the usual frustration with her apparent gift of gab, I told her that it was late andshe was goon to haveto be still, be quiet, and go to sleep. Instead of the usual whinning, she retorted," D**!" and then repeated it 3 more time! I quickly asked where she had heard it from and she tried to tell me that it was her grandmother and then she confessed...It was the cat! After thenight I had , I figured "why not,"? I will deal with the cat in the morning! LOL

Diva, party of 4.

Did you catch the Grammy's this past Sunday night? It was awesome and I think everyone will be talking about this one for years to come! One of the highlights of the evening was Lady Gaga. Ok, looking past the nude outfits that she and her dancers wore and the giant golden egg that she hatched from at the beginning of her show, he song she performed had a really good sound and message! "...I was born this way," I can't get the song out of my head. And as a mom I can say that true-er words have never been spoken. And I am speaking for both Lady Gaga and my children! I have a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old. The youngest is a girl. The other day my husband and I took our children to a movie and dinner. We had to wait a while to be seated as it was friday night and the place was packed. My daughter and I found a seat on a bench with a nice teenage girl who was with her mom and boyfriend. I was not paying to much attention to them until i heard them laughing in my direction. The teenage girl had smiled and spoken to my daughter (the3 yr old) in which my daughter had returned her kindness with rolling her eyes. My face was flush with embarrisment. Honestly, my little girl was born a diva and has been gaining attitude every since. Her only saving grace right now is that she is cute! LOL. I am learning as a mom, that you can teach your children manners, reading, math, sports and millions of other things, but when it all comes down to it, there are some things that ( to quote Lady Gaga) "they are born that way," with.

Thriller!

Evidently Micheal Jackson is making a huge comeback! Did you catch 'Glee' after the super bowl? They performed 'thriller' at their half-time show. And dateline NBC covered him by way of his little sister's (Janet) new book. There is also the micheal Jackson dance game released before Christmas that probably started this growing trend. However if you were born into my husband's family, the Micheal Jackson frenzied 'fan'atism has not begun- O NO! My mother-in-law has got to be the biggest MJ fan in the world! And that gene, unknown go me, has been passed to my 5 yr old son. There are many things a mother wishes for her children to inherit- this, however, I don't think tops many lists. That's right my friends, my son is proudly dancing around to Thriller and Bad (perhaps bad should preceed Thriller) and he is the whitest boy I know. Why couldn't he getthe dance gene from me? Nope, he got that gene from his daddy too. I have to say that all the MJ music at our house lately has brougt back found memories of my childhood! But if this is a phase that is going to stay, and these are the ones that usually do, we may have to invest in some dancing lessons. :-)

Killer Cat!

So I am keeping my moms cat for her while she is in the hospital. The cat is beautiful- a full blooded Persian, and obviously psycho! I have had the cat for about 24 hours and added to our zoo in the country which includes horses, dogs, cats of our own and soon baby chicks. All of our animals all seem to mesh well together, besides the occasional bout of jealousy because I don't have enough hands to pet all of hem at the same time. I am truly am animal lover and animals love me- except for one- my moms cat. Everything has been fine. Everyone and every animal has been going about their day in a peaceably manner. I went to the back of the house and found my moms cat curled up on my pillow on our bed. I was struck by how sweet and relaxed she looked and offered a kind word as I bent down to pick up one of the kids toys. Without warning she hissed and must have felt threatened as I made a forward movement to the toy because the next thing I knew she had jumped about 3 feet and lunged at me with paws out! Instant fear went through my body. The next 15 minutes consider of my trying to get out of my bedroom and the cat continuing to jump at me. I didn't even know cats did that! Like an attack dog! Crazy!! LOL. I manage to escape and had to get my dogs in just to corral the killer cat to a crate where she would not harm the kids or myself!! After the whole fiasco was over, I called my husband who thought the whole situation was humorous and took great pleasure in reminding me that the cat had been declawed. I plan on having him get the cat out of the crate in the morning- it is all fun and games until you have a killer cat going for the jugular!

Blogging Momma: Chickens...Really?

Blogging Momma: Chickens...Really?

Chickens...Really?

So we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby chicks at our house that we are going to raise for fresh eggs. This is another country concept that my husband has introduced to me. I am an animal lover, so the excitement of cute baby chicks is almost more than I can stand!! We are almost done building the coop and I have already gotten the baby box set up and ready. I had no idea you could eat fresh eggs from chickens! Crazy, I know, but I assumed that something was done to the eggs that you bought in the store to make them safe for human consumption. Lol - I don't know what I thought you could do to an egg to make it safe, but I have never had an egg that didn't come out of a carton. Although I am learning a whole new way of living out of the city- it makes me happy to think that my kids will know that an egg actually does come from a chicken and you can eat it even if it was not brought home in a carton!

It's the County Life for Me

So my husband and I decided to move to them country. We moved about 45 minutes from the city and everything I have ever known. My husband, on the other hand, was raised country. He is good as gold, hard working and he and his siblings have great childhood stories from the country! This is in part what helped me have a romanticized illusion of the "country" life. Don't get me wrong, it has it's ups: lots of land to
Play on, slower pace, privacy, and you can really see the
Stars at night! BUT, the old saying,'The grass is greener on the other side!' is quite applicable! In the city, neighbors and friends are close and we were very social. Country people are very different- stuck in old ways and not easily changed. Thisis where I keep running into problems! Ha! Like a butterfly Ina room full of cats, it's bound to be trouble. It makes me appreciate my kids more- they are 3 and 5 and could care less what others think. I wish I had never lost that ability! To be able to have fun and laugh at yourself and not spend so much time worrying. Imagination rules and time is measures simply by the rising and setting of the sun:-).
